Easy Lug Fix
The threaded insert in the lug may be turned the wrong way or the insert might be either missing or not threaded from the factory. There is an easy fix for this.
If the insert is in there and turned the wrong way you can simply turn it so the rod will thread by removing the lug and turning the insert into the proper position.
If the insert is missing or mis-threaded, usually there's an extra insert that would be in the same bag as the
tension rods. It's a small round metal piece with a squared bottom. Only
about 1/2 inch long. If you look at the inside of the tom you'll see
that the lugs are screwed in with 2 screws. Just unscrew the lug and it
will pull right off.
Then turn the lug over and you'll see the spring inside. You can pull that out with a pair of pliers and then put the insert inside so the flat squared part would be on the spring, when it's put back in.
If you hold the lug mount so the hole is facing down, the insert should just drop right into place. Then put the spring back in and attach to the tom.
Sounds like a lot of work, but is really very easy to do.
